Framework towards a complementarity of working and living conditions
This deliverable aims to establish a framework for a complementarity of living and working conditions on board, taking into consideration relevant policies in place, vis-à-vis industry practices. The results of Work Packages 1 and 2 (WP1 and WP2), together with the findings of Deliverables 4.1 and 4.2 (D4.1 and D4.2) are integrated in this paper for the purpose of highlighting the ideas in establishing a framework for a complementarity of living and working conditions on board. The methodologies of these relevant studies within the KNOW-ME project are also summarized to justify the viability of the applicable findings and results.
The framework outcome of this deliverable aims to set the starting point in defining non-contradicting policies and practices in terms of living and working conditions for seafarers when they are at sea. Three pillars for the framework are identified in this deliverable. The first pillar is the industry best practice for CSR, image and development in a seafaring career. The second pillar is culture and the seafarer’s social environment. Finally, policies and legal standards for seafarers and MET improvement is the third pillar. This deliverable proposes to integrate these three pillars in working towards a complementarity of working and living conditions for seafarers on board.
